Introduction- The Early Medieval period was called “ The Dark Ages” because of the ignorant reliance on religion. Everything from the art to the architecture and the medieval human mind was centered around religion or adoration of a higher power. The church prohibited the freedom of any kind of artistic expression. The Metaphorical reason for the Early Medieval Period to be called the "Dark Ages" was because it was as if the a light went out on art and literature because every aspect of life was controlled by the church.
